The Pull edition by Sara V Zook Contemporary Romance eBooks
4-4.5 stars. For a shorter length novel, this one packs a punch of angst and tension. After reading the blurb, I just knew I had to read this. Without knowing anything else, I was already advocating for Darin's wife before I started the book. This story is told from the 3 POVs of the main characters and it's obvious right from the beginning who to root for.Livvy, awake after being in a coma for more than several years, has the unfortunate circumstance of discovering that her life is no longer the way it used to be. Not only is she so many years older, but she doesn't have any friends or family, home, and definitely no husband, at least not beyond a legality. Although she was asleep for all that time, I honestly can't imagine the shock and adjustment that she has to deal with, to wake up one day and to know that life went on without her as if she were a part of the past that is now long forgotten. She doesn't belong anywhere or to anyone. Even so, Livvy is quickly adaptable and understanding, she's fortunate to have a second chance at life but she's not quite so sure she wants it now that Darin isn't a part of it anymore because in her last memory, they were in love and happily married. She's definitely the sort of woman who is gracious and loving, but she won't tolerate anyone stepping all over her.
Violet, the woman who Darin is living with and sharing a life makes it clear that she is Darin's actual woman. She comes off as the other woman because if she weren't in the picture, Darin would be with Livvy, or wouldn't he? He's only married to Livvy in name, but she has his actual heart. It's important that she makes her claim obvious. She genuinely loves Darin and has been patiently waiting for Livvy to kick the bucket so she and Darin can make their marriage official. Since that plan was derailed, considering that Livvy is now very alive and well, the next logical thing to do is get the divorce rolling. Violet is a go-getter, she doesn't sit around idly and let things happen passively and she always has a plan. She is so benevolently allowing Livvy to live under her roof when she should be busy preparing for her wedding.
Darin, who thought his wife would never wake up, has moved on and is engaged to Violet, his girlfriend for the past 4 years. He was only married to Livvy for about 1 year and those memories have long since been put away in a place that was never meant to be resurrected. Although he was crushed and heartbroken over Livvy, he has found normalcy in his life now with Violet, whom he is happy with. But being a dutiful husband, he feels responsible for Livvy until she can get back on her feet by herself. He proposes the absolutely horrid idea of having Livvy move in with he and Violet. I must say, there were several times where I genuinely empathized with Darin, but there were an equal amount of times where I wanted to punch him in the throat to permanently impair his vocal cords for the things he would do and say with such insensitivity, even though he was trying to be sympathetic. Truthfully, Darin was so wounded and had so much buried inside, that he simply functioned on autopilot and wanted to continue with his original plans rather than risk the enormity of calamitous emotions resurfacing because they were his destruction before and he barely survived. He simply couldn't handle any deviation from his plans because the last time he did, his wife died. His motto was that he was not revisiting the past and was keeping his promises. Otherwise, it was too stressful and painful for him to actually think and decide what he really wanted.
There are so many parts that will cause a riot of sentiments because the situation is so unusual and absurd and each person is hurting in some way. I couldn't stop reading because everyone had no choice but to be selfish and to fight for what/who they wanted and it became a complete mess. I wanted to cringe every time Darin tried to convince himself that he was doing the right thing and wound up wounding the woman he really loves. Thank goodness for Darin's brother Shane coming to visit and providing some common sense and wake up call. The choice was really up to Darin and he didn't handle the situation well even though he was trying to keep his sanity intact and self-preserve his feelings. I genuinely wish this book had been longer because there were parts that could have been explored more, yet the length of this was still appropriate because of the mounting anxiety and wanting to relieve it as soon as possible - some reactions just felt so visceral. As for the epilogue, I'm still trying to process that one - honestly, I wasn't a fan of that part at all because I'm not sure how that added to the story although I get why it was written that way. Otherwise, this is definitely a book that can be read in one sitting and won't be put down until it's finished.

ARC Copy provided for honest review.
This is the first book that I am reading by Sara V. Zook. I can tell you after reading it, I still went and purchased a copy on my kindle.
The Pull is a contemporary romance story of a man placed in position of having to choose between two women he loves.
The story is well told from each characters point of view. You have Darin, Livvy and Violet. Darin is legally married to Livvy but engaged to Violet. He mourned what he thought was the loss of his wife to find out 7 years later he can have it all back. The author takes you through each characters emotions of this very tough situation and the outcome is just shocking.
I can tell you I could not put this book down as I was so emotionally drawn in. Just as the title The Pull, I felt the author did a great job of pulling on my emotions. Overall it as a great story and the end was just not expected.
Original concept and well done, I wished it was longer!
Although I'm not a huge fan of the alternating points of view, I thought Sara did a good job of keeping it clear who was speaking. I didn't like Violet from the get go, but I see that her POV was necessary.
I see a lot of reviews about Darrin being a whiny baby, but that's what happens when something so tragic breaks you. You become a completely different person. You can no longer make decisions on your own and you look to anyone for love and support to pretend you can feel again.
Sara did a great job showing the darker side of a tragic accident. I do wish she had developed the characters some more and gave me more of Livvy. I wanted to know where Livvy was going to work, what her hobbies were, and who her friends were.
All in all, well done and I'll be buying the second book!

Darin Thorne was married to Livvy Thorne for only one year... Then there was an accident .. A drunk driver had hit Livvy on her way to a baby shower landing her into the hospital, what one would think for a couple days to a week.. Well.. 7 years later.. Livvy lays in a comma an after 3 years Darin had just lost it and was told he needed to understand his wife would most likely never Come back.. so he became a different man, cold and more closed off... Then he met Violet, she helped him get through some of the roughest times of his life.. They have been together for 4 years and are engaged, then one day Darin receives "the phone call" HIS WIFE IS AWAKE!!
OMG.. She has no parents living - she was an only child, and she has no idea she has been in a coma for 7 years... This is drama and true love but, what does one do when he is married to one women and engaged to another... And then dang... The cliffhanger, I can NOT believe after all this and oh I just can't,.. I have to read the next book!! It just can not be...
The cover was great and the blurb really made me want to read this story. It started off really well. I was into the story and was rooting for my favorite couple. That being said, Darin made his choice rather quickly and I felt like it went from one extreme to the next. He was struggling and then bam! Suddenly he went the total opposite direction. I feel like there were many chapters missing. I got close to the end of the book and I was still relatively happy until I finished it. The ending. I'm not sure if the author just wanted to hit publish and be done with it or if she just couldn't think of anything else to write. The ending felt like a cop out to me. It was utterly ridiculous. I don't have to have a perfect, happy, ending but this ending made me wish I hadn't even purchased the book. It was rushed and felt like it didn't belong. I loved the story line but these characters deserved more words and a not so crap ending.
